In May we purchased a yellow double decker bus from Berlin. Over the next few weeks I will tell you how we converted it into a transportable co-working space.

Second floor

The second floor was the fun to work on as there were almost no fixed elements and once we removed the seats we could do whatever we wanted with it, sort of a blank canvas. The idea was that we wanted to make that space modular so that it could be used for different purposes. The two main use cases that we imagined were normal working desks and a classroom setup for lectures where all the people from both floors of the bus can fit and listen to someone talking.
Sо Mina, designed folding desks that when folded occupy minimal space and the chairs can be moved.

This is how the bus arrived in Sofia. May 2023

First we had to get rid of the seats.

Then we removed the metal structures that held the seats.

Once everything was removed we repainted it.

We wanted to have minimal invasion into the existing bus infrastructure so with the help of local craftsman working with metal we built structures that used the exact same attachments as the ones for the original seats.

We then placed the wood on top of those structures.

As soon as the chairs arrived we took it for a spin and this is how it looks now.
