Oh, Snap! More Foursquare in your Snapchat

Foursquare providing tips and location intelligence for new Snapchat “Context Cards”

Today, we’re proud to share that Foursquare is a launch partner for Snapchat’s new Context Cards. Today’s announcement represents a deepening of our partnership with Snap and is a testament to the great work we’ve been doing together, as well as the added value that Foursquare’s best-in-class location data provides for the brand.

So, what are Context Cards and how do they work? The Context Cards are a new way for Snapchatters to learn more about Snaps they see on the app. This new feature, accessed by swiping up on any Snap that says “more” at the bottom, can include tips, recommendations, maps and more local information about what’s being shown in the Snaps — offering them a new way to interact with the world and making exploration even easier. Foursquare will be providing the kind of information and tips that you’re accustomed to seeing in the Foursquare City Guide app or on www.foursquare.com.

Imagine, for example, you’re watching a Snap taken at a cool new restaurant on Snap Map. You can just swipe up to access the Context Cards where you might find tips, hours of operation, photographs and more created by Foursquare’s community of explorers and taste makers. With a database of over 105 million places worldwide, Foursquare can provide a lot of context to Snapchat users about the places their friends and the wider Snapchat community are visiting.

So if you haven’t already, download Snapchat and check out the new Context Cards — they’ll give you more to explore and discover.

By the way, this isn’t the first time we’ve worked with Snap. You may remember back in November 2016, Snap announced it would begin licensing Foursquare’s Places database in order to provide better, more relevant Geofilters for users, while improving accuracy and flexibility for Snapchat advertisers. We’re proud to continue partnering with Snapchat to power exploration and new experiences.
