America No Longer Leads the Free World

Trump sides with Putin and other autocrats

Two things struck me after U.S. President Trump and Vice President Vance acted like crude bullies towards the world’s greatest hero right now — Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — in a meeting in the Oval Office Feb. 28.

1. The top diplomat of the European Union said “the free world needs a new leader” since America is no longer aligned with democratic nations. Instead, Trump sides with Putin, excusing (or erasing) his invasion of Ukraine, and publicly admires other autocrats around the world.
2. People rose up in support of Ukraine and the freedom from fascism that it represents. Immediately after the meeting, leader after leader from countries and organizations across the world expressed their support for Ukraine on Zelenskyy’s X account including Switzerland, Italy, England, France, Canada, Finland, Montenegro, Faroe Islands, the Slovak Republic, the European Union, Estonia, Australia, New Zealand, Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Romania, Croatia, Latvia, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, the European Council, Portugal, the European Parliament, Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Moldova, Spain, and Poland. Spontaneous protests arose in New York, Los Angeles, and Boston, and protests continue across the globe.
