Tuesday 11th February is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Established by UNESCO in 2015, this date aims to foreground the importance of women and girls in STEM [science, technology, engineering, and maths] subjects to close the gender pay gap in Science.

Since 2025 marks its tenth anniversary, it seems an opportune moment to introduce Nicole’s story of working in Technology.

According to 2023 figures, nearly 200,000 women in Canada work in tech. Despite this seemingly healthy number, women currently represent only 22.1% of the Canadian tech workforce. However, more optimistic global data from 2020 reveals that women account for between 28% and 42% of GAFAM employees [Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft].
