Trump later said he “looked like an illegal”
You may have seen the video of California Senator Alex Padilla being forced to the ground and handcuffed by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s security guards for trying to ask a question at her press briefing in Los Angeles yesterday, June 12.
Later Noem’s team (and Fox News, and the GOP leadership) lied and said he didn’t identify himself and lunged at her. But the video shows otherwise. He says “I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have a question for the secretary.”
Noem later said she didn’t recognize the senator, and President Trump said “he looks like an illegal,” making the racism plain.
Because that’s what’s at the core of Trump’s deportation policies — racism. He’s not arresting and deporting the imaginary rapists, murderers and criminals he campaigned on, but regular immigrants who’ve committed no crimes — many of them when they are showing up for work or their scheduled immigration appointments, following the law…
