Diversity is “God’s Plan”

Humans are foolish to exclude “different” people from the decision table

Mother Earth is home to more than 400,000 different kinds of beetle. And that’s just the ones that have been identified. It’s estimated that there are actually somewhere between 1 and 2 million different types of beetle. Why? Because it’s good for them!

Diversity is a big part of what keeps their species alive.

Environmental scientists across the board are alarmed by the loss of biodiversity, which the UN Convention on Biological Diversity describes as “the diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems . . .”

And here’s how the Nature Conservancy explains the importance of diversity within a species:

Plant, animal and fungi populations that have a variety of different characteristics in their DNA have better chances in the long run of withstanding the challenges posed by predators, diseases and changing climates.

In other words, having only one type of beetle would jeopardize the beetle universe. Having some beetles that fly, some that swim, and some that dig underground ensures that beetles as a species will make it even in the event of worldwide predator, disease, or weather disasters.

How about plants?
