So there’s a woman eating on her own at a nice restaurant. Two men and two women, in their fifties, are seated at the next table. One of the men gets up and approaches her.

“Would you take a photo of the four of us?” he asks.

“No,” she says.

“Why not?” he asks.

“I don’t want to.”

Does he respond with, “Okay. Sorry to bother you. Enjoy your meal.”

Nope. He calls her a bitch. Then he says, “No wonder you’re single and eating by yourself.”

After which he returns to his table, where he and his friends proceed to laugh at her and mock her for turning down his request.

So, who is the asshole?

When the woman posted about this little encounter later on Facebook, she got plenty of support. But she also got plenty of pushback.

For everyone who said, “Good for you!” and “You were under no obligation to take photos for a stranger” and “Why didn’t he just ask the server to take the photo?” there were folks — mostly men — who responded with, “You were the rude one. It’s easy to be kind. He asked you nicely — why not just take the damn…
