First Trans Woman To Win “Model of The Year”
But her win is greeted with trans slurs
Alex Consani made history as the first transgender woman to win the “Model of the Year” award at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards in 2024.
“I can’t accept this award without thanking those who came before me, specifically the Black trans women who really fought for the space I’m in today,” she said in her heartfelt acceptance speech.
It’s painful to see how much negativity she’s facing simply for winning Model of the Year as a trans woman. She has not only been in the fashion industry longer than Anok Yai, but her hard work and dedication deserve full recognition.
