I Have the Female Version of a “Dad Bod”
Yet my body is deemed undesirable: talk about double standards
I stepped on the body composition machine at the gym. The screen plotted my body type on a graph and labelled it “solid build,” meaning high muscle mass but higher than average body fat. My body is contradictory: I have muscle definition in my arms and thighs but a soft abdomen and love handles.
If I were a man, I’d be considered “stocky.” It became clear when I looked at myself in one of the full-length mirrors everywhere in my gym: I’ve got a “dad bod.” Except I’m a mostly feminine presenting non-binary person.
The “Dad bod” is considered the most attractive male body type for heterosexual women. Many famous Hollywood men are pictured in the media as having “let themselves go” yet are still deemed desirable. Generally, these dad bods have well-defined pecs and biceps, but their six-pack abs have softened a little — not quite into a gut, but not flat either.
