In my experience, there are two types of women in the world. Those who inspire and those who aspire.

The incredible women I have worked with have inspired me more than anyone else I’ve ever met. They have challenged me, supported me and championed me. They are the reason I am who I am today.

However, there is also a breed of women who seem to actively try to stop me in my tracks, to try and keep me small, so I don’t outshine them. They aspire to be someone different than who they are and everyone around them suffers as a consequence.

When I was younger, I found this impossible to deal with, I just assumed that I had to stay in my lane, not speak up or advocate for myself because that wasn’t the done thing. It caused me more stress and anxiety than anything else in my career.

I had a boss who insisted on putting me down in every meeting we attended. Even in front of our client.

It was exhausting.
