In the newsletter I wrote two weeks ago, I talked about being excited about the imminent birth of Principal Editor ’s baby girl, Alyana Noor. Well, here she is!
Muniba has sent me a number of pictures of Alyana since she was born Sept. 22, but I love this one best, and I’ll tell you why. It’s because she’s adorable! Hahahah!
But also, because she’s wearing a little baby hijab. And to me, that communicates the message that Fourth Wave stands beside and behind people of the Muslim faith.
In a better world, it wouldn’t be necessary to say that. Because in a better world, it would be a given. Of course we welcome everyone to our conversation about lifting girls and women up!
But we don’t live in a better world, unfortunately. And as a woman born and raised in the United States, I’m assaulted daily by reports of our current president verbally denigrating and causing real physical harms to people unlike him — to immigrants, Black people, women, intellectuals, Democrats, Latinx, Palestinians, Muslims, liberals, protestors, his political “enemies” (anyone who disagrees with him), etc.
But no matter.
President Trump can give rude, rambling speeches to captive audiences and tweet hateful…
