A little girl sits in jail in Houston, Texas. She’s not really a little girl, she’s eighteen, but she looks like a little girl. Big scared eyes, dark hair pulled into a ponytail. They shackled her legs. Talk to her behind glass.
They set bail at two hundred thousand dollars. Said she’s a flight risk and they had to make sure she can’t flee before she’s prosecuted.
When they first arrested her, she struggled to remember the sequence of the events of that day, which is pretty common in traumatic events, but it was all caught on camera. As she remembers the details, she cries a lot.
Her name is Everilda and she could get up to twenty years in prison for abandoning her rapist’s baby.
