I live in a flat but there’s that green colour everywhere. I think just like I can’t bear to look at empty walls, my husband can’t tolerate emptiness in the balcony. Thanks to him we have plants everywhere in our home, some of which I have kept in the living room and on the kitchen window ledge, too. I think if blue inspires speech in me, the colour green calms me.

So the first thing in the morning which I do is to observe them. I pluck the dried leaves, soak in the fragrance of the blooming flowers and drink the balmy breeze. For me nature means divinity. It’s my way of embracing the power of the universe. Before the day starts and the notifications start chiming, I love the calm of the balcony garden. If time permits I prefer to have my first cup of tea in the balcony with the plants looking back at me. These are the quiet joys of life which take me away from the harsh realities of the world. And this is my favourite place to write in, too.

Thanks to Suma Narayan for asking the question whether plants move me?
