Why it empowers health instead of promoting obesity

Sometimes . . . oops . . . pardon . . . very often it is a challenging activity to be a fat activist. Even if many people agree that the current beauty standards are unrealistic and harmful, that equality and accessibility should also include fat people because they are people, and that some diseases cause obesity, and there is much to be done about it, seeing fat activists provokes rejection and online hate.

Supposedly we are promoting an unhealthy lifestyle.

I felt the enormous need to write this story after engaging recently in a conversation on Instagram that I should not have. Some conversations lead nowhere. One very provocative Instagram account announced:

2024 Biological Nonsense of the Year for (Polish) @cialo.faynie, an Instagram influencer who claims that measuring body weight and indicators of proper body weight are “racist” and “sexist.”

Having read many books and articles about the intersections of body shape and size, especially with race and sex, I felt strongly convinced that I should provide at least some context.
