More than half the world can’t speak freely now, according to a May 21 story in the Guardian. The report calls out the loss of freedom in India, in particular, as does this story from our own 15-year-old contributor Pragya Chaturvedi who can “discern right from wrong” — unlike a big chunk of the world’s population today.

The Guardian reports that our freedoms are being lost at an alarming rate.

In its annual report, the advocate group Article 19 found the number of people facing a “crisis” in freedom of speech and information was the highest this century after a sharp rise from 34% in 2022 to 53% in 2023. — The Guardian

But freedom of speech and the press aren’t all we’re losing. Freedom of religion, of expression, of the right to protest, of the right to decide when and whether we have children and whom we marry and love — we are losing our rights to make personal choices across the board, giving them over to government.
