President Trump’s decision to take over California’s National Guard in order to quell protests against ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) activities in Los Angeles is bullshit.
Close to 100 people protesting the planned arrest and deportation of their friends and family outside a Home Depot in a city of 4 million does not “constitute a form of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States,” as Trump claimed in the order he signed late in the day on June 7, which unleashed 2,000 guardsmen on the scene.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said Trump’s move was “purposefully inflammatory” and that the president was trying to “manufacture a crisis.”
Protestors were doing what all anti-racist and freedom-loving Americans should be doing right now — telling the government to stop arresting and deporting brown people who’ve done nothing wrong besides coming to live in the United States.
These peaceful and hardworking people are not the murderers, rapists, and criminals Trump campaigned on deporting, despite their lack of paperwork.
