POEM | BATTLE OF THE HEART

Unrequited LOVE

Our own worst enemy

I love you

Just three words
Said with such ease
Each morning
when she awakes
The same three words
Her Lips resist
Lost in a storm of torment
The heart is frail
Weary from battle
Surrendering to reason of the mind
Numb to the warmth
Blind to the change
Excuses wearing thin
Justifying the conflict

Self Preservation

Fighting the noise
Polluting her mind
Obstructing what matters
The sun rays pass through
The clouds disappear
Gifting a smile
Reassuring her presence
Feeling unwavering love once more
