The evolution of humanity saw some major innovations since the beginning. Many of these innovations made our lives easier and more comfortable. Innovations not only made life comfortable but also kept the full attention of our entertainment, even at the cost of the health and life of a person.

So, amongst many of these innovations, harming the health and giving pleasure, was the discovery of drugs and other addictive sources, which give short time pleasure, but are also harmful in many ways. One such innovation that is most popular amongst teenagers is e-cigarettes and vapors.

Vapors and e-cigarette industry is growing since the 1900s with people getting more and more curious about these things. This market was valued at 11.7 billion dollars in 2018.

A vaporizer is an electric device that turns vaping material into vapor. A vaporizer usually consists of the battery, main console, cartridges, and atomizer or cartomizer. The battery generates the power for the heating element in the atomizer, which contacts the vaping material and transforms it into vapor for inhalation.

These e-cigarettes are categorized into many different products like a vaporizer, vape mode, cig-a-like and T-vapor.

The graph clearly shows that the product which has been in greatest demand is the “Vaporizer”, which is in high demand due to its moderate cost and flexibility to choose the flavor. But it can also be seen that other products of this industry have also seen a rise in their demand which shows that people want to try out all the innovations of this industry.

Advertisements and Marketing to Young People

The advertisement strategies used by these companies were quite unusual, with companies displaying vaping as a cool and modern habit, like projecting women in beautiful dresses smoking e-cigarettes and showing rugged cowboys smoking, made a huge impact on the youth. These companies took to the street advertisements and companies like “Juul” started displaying their advertisements on big billboards and electronic screens. These companies also started to combine their brand name with success and fame, and even started hashtags for their products.

The companies made the youth as their prime consumers, according to one report by ABC news, students claimed that the representatives from the company “Juul” came to their school to give an anti-vaping presentation, but as soon as the teacher left, they started promoting their company’s vaping products.

According to a survey, 80% of teens claim to have these vapors just because they come in different flavors. The other reason is the sleek and small design of these cigarettes, which is easy to hide and is easy to travel with.

Another way of making this look cool is by showing those cool white vapors and playing those cool tricks of making rings and other shapes and posting them on social media displaying those big discounts on these vapors. Even the music video industries also promote the use of these products by displaying these products being used by big artists, which in turn directly influence their fans.

According to the Robb Report “Juul”, one of the biggest names in this industry has experienced explosive growth in recent years — from $200 million in 2017 to $1.3 billion in revenue last year (and a $12.4 million profit). And, despite the new restrictions, it is expecting sales growth of 160 percent, with 26 percent of sales taking place outside of the United States.

That kind of success — and the debate over e-cigarettes — has heightened the brand’s profile of late. Last year, the New Yorker chronicled how teens have transformed Juul from tobacco cessation products to a meme-worthy social media phenomenon. It has also translated into dollars for Juul employees. Thanks to a $2 billion investment from tobacco conglomerate Altria Group (owner of Phillip Morris and Nat Sherman, among others), the company’s founders became instant billionaires, and they gave bonuses to their longtime staff members that turned many into overnight millionaires.

Vaping both with or without nicotine disrupts normal lung functioning otherwise healthy person.

Vaping also negatively affects oral health, the aerosol present in e-cigarettes makes teeth surface more prone to developing bacteria and may increase up the risk of cavities. It also causes gum inflammation which is a factor associated with the development of periodontal diseases. Vapes also irritate gums, mouth, and throat.

According to centers for disease control and prevention, vaping nicotine can permanently affect brain development in people under the age of 25.

Bottomline

Addiction of any kind is serious to health and should be effectively removed from lifestyle either by taking someone’s assistance or by taking care of self.

One should not fall in the glamour of these drugs as shown by these companies and should make their own choice. Its also time or these companies which help create this epidemic to take responsibility and help in curbing teenage smoking.
