“If we want healthy, happy, smart, and laid-back children, we have to liberate them from fear. And every childhood can easily be ruined by various fears: That everything is crucial, that you aren’t good enough, that you can make your parents unhappy, that you are inadequate for everything, that you’re stupid, unneeded, in danger, etc.

There is a nonsensical concept in children’s literature coming from the tragic and archaic pedagogic concept: First of all that work is physical, that the point of learning and work is to get a job, that a man establishes himself primarily in the social and professional hierarchy.

That “vision” of children as future clerks and officials, with social classes and salaries, with statuses and reputation — that’s that old school and social bogeyman that ignores a personality yet promotes obedience and mediocrity…
