Celebrating the Army’s Birthday & Flag Day

Today, 14 June, marks two significant events that require our attention and reverence: the United States Army’s Birthday and Flag Day

These occasions remind us of the bravery and sacrifices of our servicemen and women, as well as the symbol of unity and freedom that our flag represents.

I had the honor and privilege to serve in the US Army for 28 years and owe most of my success and good fortune to that service.

I was able to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism during my time in the Army and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) with the GI Bill after I retired as a First Sergeant in 2007.

By the way, being a First Sergeant was the second-best position I held in the Army. The first, was as a Drill Sergeant, training young couch potatoes about our weapons and tactics was exciting and fulfilling.

Many don’t realize 14 June is the 248th birthday of the Army but only the 247th birthday of our country. That’s right, the Army was established with the motto, “This We’ll Defend,” a year before our forefathers declared our independence from Britain. It was America’s first national…
