Genghis Khan is one of the greatest conquerors in history. He conquered most of Asia and Eastern Europe, but who were his parents? What was his upbringing like? From his childhood, could we have predicted he would end up the way he did?

Well, like Genghis Khan, his father, Yesugei, was a great warrior.

According to the Secret History of the Mongols, Yesugei was known as Yesugei the Brave and was the grandson of Khabul Khan, the ruler of the predecessor state to the Mongol Empire.

Yesugei’s family historically tried to unite all Mongols.

It was a goal his son would later accomplish.
