AWS GovCloud and Frame

Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced the expansion of its GovCloud infrastructure, designed for regulated and highly sensitive customer data. Their new East Coast region will be called AWS GovCloud (US-East). The original AWS GovCloud region, which is located in Oregon, will now be named AWS GovCloud (US-West). Together, these data centers will provide the core infrastructure for Frame’s Government platform, with additional focus on security and compliance.

THE SECURE CLOUD LANDSCAPE

Remote app and desktop delivery through streaming improves security by providing an air gap between a server environment and a client. (For more details, see this Security Tech Talk by our CEO — Nikola Bozinovic —from the 2016 AWS Public Sector Summit.)

But not all virtual desktops are the same. Legacy desktop virtualization, like Citrix, relies on enterprise IT to ensure security and compliance “up the stack”. In contrast, Frame’s cloud-native architecture and focus on compliance as part of the platform allows us to provide complete solutions on highly secure cloud infrastructure, such as AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or AWS C2S (an AWS region supporting the US Intelligence Community).

Frame’s focus on security didn’t go unnoticed; as part of our recent funding round, we partnered with In-Q-Tel to realize the full potential of cloud-based application delivery with focus on security.

“Frame takes virtual desktops to the next level by delivering a solution that operates completely within a web browser at performance levels we have not seen before,” said George Hoyem, managing partner of investments at In-Q-Tel. “The ability to reduce security risks with zero-footprint virtual desktop clients, while simplifying management of desktop software, is attractive to our government partners.”

We also expanded our offering to include AWS GovCloud and Azure Government regions. These regions will ultimately allow federal agencies and commercial contractors to work securely in FedRAMP moderate and ITAR-compliant cloud workspaces. We have a select number of customers using Frame’s Government platform in preview today and we’re working hard on securing FedRAMP accreditation.

Secure, regulated cloud solutions have applications far beyond government. Commercial customers in industries like architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) will soon be able to take advantage of Frame’s offering to meet new Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) regulatory requirements (NIST 800–171) and to reduce the security and compliance overhead created by these new regulations. By the time AWS GovCloud (US-East) comes online in 2018, our customers will be able to run secure workspaces in a FedRAMP moderate environment from multiple data centers.

Secure Frame platforms

As AWS and Azure continue to invest billions of dollars in datacenter build out, Frame customers can instantly reap benefits of their continuous expansion. To learn more about Frame’s regional datacenter coverage or security options, get in touch today.
