A Day at the desk with Dan

Dan Lilja, Electronics Manager

Hey Dan, so what were you doing before you came to work at Frankly?
I graduated in 2009 from Halmstad, then I started my own business with a friend for one year and then we merged with a larger company and I worked there as hardware developer. After a year I started as a project leader then team leader and in 2013 we opened a new office in Malmö, which I was the head of and that’s when I met Frankly. Two months ago I became an employee of Frankly. There’s not so much of a difference as when I worked here as a consultant compared to now. Maybe not as much admin work…which is nice. Even when I was not an employee of Frankly I was always treated as one, so it’s quite similar.

What is your job title here and what does your position entail?
My job title is electronics manager. I’m a hardware developer and hardware designer, but also I take care of making sure that we maintain the high quality of work we send out from our studio. I also plan the electronics projects and quote them and take care of our team.

What do you find to be the biggest difference in your daily experience now and before you worked at Frankly?
There’s not that much of a difference from when I worked with my own company, but compared to my work prior to that, there’s a pretty huge difference. Especially in the spirit, in that there are so many passionate people here. Also we do the whole product development. We take it from idea to production and that’s really cool and that’s what I love!

What do you find to be an important factor in your work environment?
Of course the people and the passion and the spirit. We have a great team feeling here. That’s very important to get a good result and people are very driven and extremely skilled at what they do. Being surrounded by skilled people and passionate people, that’s huge!

What’s something you can’t live without on your desk every day that contributes to your work?
That’s probably my soldering station, which I use when I’m patching and soldering electronics. The multimeter also, which we use for measuring electronics.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Training, mostly, I’ve been doing triathlons, running track and field for 21 years. Swimming, biking, mostly outdoor stuff, it’s the most fun. So that takes a lot of my time and of course I have my dog and girlfriend and renovating my house!
