A Day At The Desk with Johan

Mechanical Designer

Hey Johan, so what were you doing before you came to work at Frankly?
I was working at Orbital Systems, which is owned by a friend of mine from school. I had the opportunity to work there as a concept designer and mechanical designer. I made new ideas for their sustainable showers. It was great, but it was a start-up, so there wasn’t as much structure, which was hard for me since I was going to have a kid and needed more stability. I heard some rumors about Frankly and met a mutual friend of Christian Dittrich, at a skate park in Malmö and we started talking about Frankly. I looked into Frankly after that. I always wanted to work in a fun, youthful and innovative environment and this is definitley that kind of place.

What is your job title here and what does your position entail?
I am a mechanical designer and I do mechanics, plastic parts, CAD design and reviews. I print stuff, test stuff, modify and make sure everything fits together and is good quality and feels nice. Most of the time I’m working in Catia or Creo, which are 3-D modeling programs.

What do you find to be the biggest difference in your daily experience now and before you worked at Frankly?
I think it’s probably the vibe here. It feels much nicer to go to work; of course there are days that are stressful, like anywhere. I think the fact that there are so many nice people here is a huge factor in the the difference. Before Orbital Systems, I was ÅF. It’s much bigger and it was nice, but I didn’t feel that I was at home there; it was more narrow minded. Here at Frankly it feel like I’m with my friends and family…sometimes it’s like I’m hanging out at work.

What do you find to be an important factor in your work environment?
The colleagues of course, that’s really important. In my desk environment, there are the standard things like having adjustable desks that are good for your back and posture.

What’s something you can’t live without on your desk every day that contributes to your work?
A cup of coffee and my ear phones with musical inspiration. I can’t live without Chuva’s (our marketing/PR coordinator) playlists, those are like my core during the day, when I’m feeling a bit sad or I don’t have so much energy, that’s the place I go to to regroup myself mentally.*

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
That’s a great question! So much Stuff! How much time do we have?

I enjoy surfing, playing my guitar, mountain biking, being with my family and friends, swimming, mini golf with an ice-cream in hand, late nights in Copenhagen…..should I go on?

* Johan may have been coerced by the interviewer to elaborate on his musical choice.
