From Connected Things To Reactive

Last week our very own CTO, Fredrik Silfver and Howl’s Senior Designer Bilgi Karan spoke at the Entreprenörsveckan in Båstad. The talk, entitled, “From Connected Things To Reactive Things” took the audience on the journey through the evolution of IOT and the collaboration between engineers and designers, as opposed to using each other’s expertise as an afterthought. In essence, the collaboration in itself being the human definition of internet of things.

Bilgi and Fredrik also touched upon their own experiences coming from such large corporations as Blackberry and Sony and how it has shaped their perspective, creativity and current way of working. They also spoke about the partnership between Frankly and Howl and how the demise of large corporations fertilizes the conception of small progressive companies.

“We all experienced a great deal of conflict between design and technology in our careers. As a designer I always said: “Of course design Centric!” without thinking. It is funny really I always thought that we — as designers — can come up with any idea and technology should be able to solve it.” (BK)

“And I said ,designers doesn’t really understand tech enablers.” (FB)
There is a great synergy when we think together from day one understanding limitations of technology and involving design as early as possible for the best possible outcome. (FB)

The ultimate take away being that the internet of things facilitating humans doing less of what they have to do and more of what they want to do. We’re looking forward to more talks from these two as well as, furthering our growth in all things IOT! Thanks for representing us all so well in Båstad guys!
