While parenting styles and approaches vary widely and change with the times, some beliefs have been passed down through the generations and persist.

But are they even true?

Here’s where the validity of these beliefs currently stands:

1. Throwing baby powder over your shoulder will give you 7 months of not smelling a dirty diaper.

False. You already know you do.

2. If you rub the Diaper Genie at exactly 2 a.m. and make a wish, it will come true.

Only if your wish was to be up feeding a baby and changing a diaper at 2 a.m.

3. If you tell your preschooler to run into the next room and see if you’re there and they come back and say that you are, then your house is haunted.

Highly likely. Unless you have a twin.

4. If you say you’re glad your child hasn’t yet done something you don’t want them to do and then knock on wood, then they will never, ever, ever do that thing.
