Have you ever wondered if it’s okay to lie to your kids? These aren’t the confessions you bring to a priest — or a playgroup. Luckily, the Ethicist for Tired Parents is here to help solve your most pressing ethical dilemmas — judgment-free!
When it gets dark at 5 p.m. can I tell my kids it’s bedtime?
My husband has been away on business for the past two weeks and I’ve been home alone with our children, ages 1 and 3. Between working, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids, I’m exhausted! Can I tell the kids that it’s bedtime a few hours early so I can have a break?

Also, remember what Aristotle said: Equals should be treated equally. So when your husband comes home, be sure to leave for two weeks. Doesn’t your sister have a guest room?
