Down in the home instruction site
Remote school tools work hard all night
To change some passwords, write new code,
To make the classroom fail to load!

The sun has set, the work is done;
(By “done,” we mean not yet begun,
So much as hurled at someone’s head.
But that’s just details.) Time for bed!
No need to put the stuff away —
Tomorrow’s one more endless day.

Working hard to crush your hopes,
Chromebook screeches one last nope.
Beeping, buzzing, soon to die,
He’ll flash a blue screen at your eye,
Then shut right down and shoot out sparks.
You wanted bed? Ha! Work past dark
To slowly coax a startup chime,
Access the portal a nineteenth time,
Then shut the laptop nice and tight (sigh!),
Which resets logins overnight.
Shh…goodnight, Chromebook, goodnight.

Sitting, watching all day long,
Webcam has his green light on.
You turned him off? You’re confident?
Remember just last week you spent
A two-hour online meeting showing
Your naked, dancing toddler throwing
Fruit snacks at your delighted dog
While you attempted dialogue.
(No one told you until later;
Dogs and kids make meetings greater.)
Shh…goodnight, Webcam, goodnight.

Online School Checklist makes you haul
A crate of new stuff, big and small,
Into your dining/classroom space.
Supplies will cascade everyplace!
Composition books and folders,
Rulers, compass…
