I speak for lice everywhere when I say, we are sick and tired of hearing about COVID. We want our title of Most Dreaded School Bug back, and we will not stop until we are causing chaos and fear once again.

I rue the day the SARS-CoV-2 virus usurped my power to bring worry and panic into a family’s life. Pre-COVID, just the mention of my name caused people to take a step back and start itching their heads. Ah, those were the good ole days.

But now, everything has changed because of that stupid SARS-CoV-2 bug. It gets ALL the attention and all the fear. People talk about that virus — day and night. Schools talk about it — day and night. Parents fear a call from the school nurse informing them it is time to stock up on toilet paper and wine and quarantine together because their child has COVID. (And perhaps grab a small bottle of brandy while you’re at it.)

I know the global pandemic has been hard on everyone but what about us? Remote learning attempted to destroy our kingdom. How can we pass from child to child when they are not sharing the same space? What a scourge remote…
