A peek into marketing

New Marketing Room

Wednesday night comes and we all gather at our respective rooms, (we just moved rooms recently too and it’s so exciting!) we log into our laptops, phones or desktops, form a circle and get to work. This group is by far one of the most planned out and organized groups I’ve been apart of in robotics, and yet, we still know how to keep the mood light. With our initial meet ups, we mess around a little, relaying back what has been accomplished, all the while throwing in a few quips here and there to keep it relevant and interesting. The whole process really helps us work better as we’re not constantly on each other’s backs, allowing us to offer more relevant criticism. After the meet ups, we all disband and get back to work on our assigned projects, communicating through our computers, phones and even occasionally speaking to each other.

The Remnants Of Our Old Rooms Being Moved Out

As I’m with the social media team I mostly work through cameras and my phone, so I’m a bit more mobile than some of my team members, and it allows me to document the goings on within the club. This has given me and my counterpart Casey, a sense of scope for the whole and our section in particular. We see the marketing team seems to end up doing the most individually for the team than any other group. We normally have less members than build and electrical so the ratio of work to member is higher but also the meat and bones of our work requires carefully written essays and letters. These take more effort and we’re handed a stack to deal with, its different from being given sections on the robot to work on. We basically have to fly on our owns to grind out the requirements, lest we miss an important deadline and face dire consequences.

Marketing In The Old Days…

All in all, the marketing team is not exactly what you think it is, unless you think its a very organized, stressful, wired but somehow less communicative, lighthearted and constructive group; then you're right, we’re that.
