Countdown to Fractal Mainnet

After a successful Testnet launch, we’re gearing up for Fractal Mainnet [postponed to October 19]

Our tech team at Fractal Protocol is building state-of-the-art infrastructure that empowers users across the world to establish a fair data economy.

A Fractal Point of View

We see the monopolized silos that plague today’s data economy as a hindrance to the healthy growth of the data market. We see the opportunity to use our decentralized ledger solution (aka blockchain) as a means to incentivize users for permissionless data liquidity. With the launch of our Mainnet, users will be able to generate real revenue through a transparent and consent-based process with — by design — keeping the user and its privacy first.

Disrupting the unfair status quo

Hence the reason we chose to build the protocol within the Polkadot ecosystem. We use blockchain technology as the wheels of a revolution to destroy the boundaries and unfair market practices of the current data economy. These boundaries kill the ability to see the true growth of users and publishers alike. At Fractal Protocol, it’s our core mission to establish a way for all participants to get paid fairly for their services. This is not happening at the rate and to the extent, it should be under the control of tech giants like Google and Facebook. Through corrective disruption, Fractal will help empower millions of people with alternative revenue streams that were previously unavailable.

Think about it: If you are the one supplying the data, doesn’t that make you the owner of the data? So why aren’t you being compensated fairly for your input into the data market?

Some users are not even aware that they are missing out on the monetization of the data they create daily. At Fractal, we plan to change this by launching the Fractal Protocol Mainnet on October 19 [postponed from 5 October 2021] along with strong upcoming partnerships and integrations.

The Testnet’s Purpose

We recently started our highly anticipated Fractal Testnet a few weeks ago and we can not be more grateful to show our appreciation for the massive amount of support we’ve received so far. It is truly an honor to engage with such a diverse community that believes in the data revolution as much as we do! The launch of the Testnet provided us with more than an opportunity to show gratitude to our early supporters. It gave us the chance to work on any issues so that the Mainnet can work at full capacity when it is launched. The team is running tests at full speed across the board to ensure the integrity of the Protocols’ functionality. Also, the Fractal Wallet UX is being refined to provide an accurate real-time display of the data being captured as well as FCL balances. As we work towards finalizing the last steps in getting the Mainnet ready, we are implementing the feedback that we have received from you: over 10k users! We have established a Give-Away Program for these users with Round 4 of the giveaway paving the road to Mainnet launch!

What to expect from Mainnet Launch?

When we’ll launch the Mainnet on October 19, the Fractal Wallet is to make history by being the first application to be tightly integrated with the Mainnet. Based upon your consent, the wallet will capture browsing history and store them as logs on your local device only (so, we never see your data). Through blockchain technology, your wallet is able to provide proof of on-chain activity to the Fractal Protocol’s SDK while keeping your data private, safe and secure.

Essentially, you automatically become a data miner by collecting your own data and get rewarded for it with FCL. This process along with giving consent to share your data provide users with multiple avenues to acquire revenue through the protocol in a privacy-preserving way.

This is the major difference between the Testnet and Mainnet launches. Through the Fractal Mainnet, you’ll receive real FCL worth the same market value as FCL on our current ERC-20 listing on several exchanges (KuCoin, Bitfinex, Uniswap).

Note the difference between Substrate- and Ethereum-based FCL

There is a difference between the FCL listed on current exchanges and the FCL that you will receive from the Protocol. The tokens issued from using the Mainnet will be Substrate-FCL (since we’re building in the Polkadot development environment, more precisely on Substrate as part of their prestigious builder’s program). Substrate-FCL are not yet as easily tradable as Ethereum-based FCL. The team is working diligently to build the bridge between the two blockchains using token burns, as the value of our tokens for our supporters is our top priority. Be assured that the value of the Substrate-FCL will always correspond to the same value as Ethereum-based FCL.

Great news: Mainnet comes with a highly attractive value program

By design, 2.5 million FCL tokens have been set aside to be distributed to protocol users based on the number of participants involved. This will give a maximum of 500 FCL (depending on the number of users that participate) to every user just for actively engaging with the protocol — every month!

Finishing Q3 the Fractal Way

To ensure our reward system has full transparency is free of scams and zombie-like traffic from bots, we will integrate a Liveness-Credential to demonstrate participation. This will make sure real people are being paid and money is not going into the hands of exploiters. Starting with the Fractal Protocol Mainnet Launch on 19 October 2021, you will be able to pioneer the first data ownership empowering browser extension built on top of our web3 infrastructure. By accessing the Fractal Wallet, users will be able to KYC easily without disclosing their KYC data (so privacy-preserving!) using on-chain credentials. This strongly enhances the functionality of our technology, opening a gateway towards owning and monetizing your own data. We will prepare two AMAs around the Mainnet launch fueling our community with more info and look forward to inspiring discussions with all of you.

Please visualize the moment where you stop paying for the internet with your personal data and make the internet start to pay you? That day is rapidly approaching. That day is 19 October 2021!

About the Fractal Protocol

Built on Polkadot, Fractal Protocol is an open-source, zero-margin protocol that defines a basic standard to exchange user information in a fair and open way, ensuring a high-quality version of the free internet. In its first version, it is designed to replace the ad cookie and give users back control over their data.
