I have always loved puzzles, and when I learned to crochet, I discovered that not only could I solve a puzzle, I could make the pieces of one as well.

This particular square and the method I used to make it have become a staple in my crochet oeuvre.

I have used it to make blankets, purses:

and even a dog coat.

Because one of my goals in creating this square was to devise a crochet component that could be made by anyone under almost any circumstances, it is very simple, requiring just 20 feet of worsted weight yarn and a 4.25 mm hook, the size of the “G hook” that is widely available at almost any Walmart in the country.

So if you have a crochet dream of your own that you could achieve with the Bauhaus Block, here is a pattern to get you started.

Materials:

  • 4.25 mm hook
  • Worsted weight yarn (about 20 ft/square)
  • Bent-tipped yarn needle

Notes:

  • Gauge: 2.5" x 2.5" (8 cm x 8 cm)
