I got the idea for this square because I need a new purse.

Desperately.

I have needed this new purse for over a year now, and while there are a number of amazing squares out there in the world, I wanted a particular type of square, one that when worked with a 4.0 mm hook and worsted weight yarn would measure six inches across.

A square that would be both festive and able to withstand the weight of the world; something to remind me that at some point it will once again be okay to hop in the car and go out for a cup of coffee or get on a plane and and go visit a loved one or just walk to my favorite restaurant for huevos rancheros and a slice of Mexican wedding cake.

But we are not there yet, and in the meantime, I decided that I need a purse that can meet the demands of the world as it is now. One that washes easily while drying quickly. One that is large enough to hold the assorted wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues that are now de rigueur rather than “nice to haves.”

An all purpose crochet square!

But this square isn’t just for crochet purses.
