I Think “Unprecedented” is Trying to Tell Us Something

“Improbable” “Impossible” “Unbelievable” “Unthinkable” “Unimaginable” “Implausible” “Inconceivable” “Incredible”

How many times have you heard these terms in the past few years?

Well, one of them, “unprecedented”, has a message for us:

I was utilized when you all took a stroll on the moon. I’ve made appearances after national elections — from Truman to Trump. I was bandied about with the dropping of the atom bomb and the birth of the internet and the fall of the Berlin Wall. And I get 15 seconds of super-fame via underdog athletes every few decades.

Yet it’s mind-boggling how often the human mind boggles without ever realizing its own generous predilection for deliberately boggling other minds.

You love me. Don’t deny it — I’ve seen you. You love surprising and confounding one another with me— it’s part of your charm.

Well, charm for some. Aggravation for others.

So maybe this endless train of precedence-setting events going on now will finally get your attention and convince you to stop underestimating me.

I’m just getting started!

Stop using my name in vain and get smart.

Think outside the precedence-box.

Otherwise, and I say this as a concerned friend, there will be “unimaginable” consequences.
