If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.

When I was younger, I subscribed to the idea that the only way to be successful is to work all day, every day. When I was in school, my weekends were filled with studying for AP or honors classes. I thought that anyone that didn’t prioritize work and who didn’t dedicate their life around work was lazy.

‘Someday’ is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.

Even today, I feel like I am consistently behind in life professionally and personally. Just recently, Forbes released their annual 30 under 30 lists which the list explained that on average, people who made the list work 66 hours per week. Forbes list confirms the stereotypical idea that you need to work all day every day to be successful.

What if I told you that you can be successful, without trying yourself to death?

Timothy Ferris’s book, “The 4-Hour Workweek” challenges my belief system and lays out a foundation to work smarter, not harder. Ferris argues that you don’t have to work yourself to death to be successful.

Get uncomfortable and be courageous

I believe that the first step toward riches is to get uncomfortable. You need to think big, to achieve big things. You must be comfortable with unexpected obstacles you are bound to have.

A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.

Most entrepreneurs who build a brand new company faced many obstacles. Many people called them crazy for the idea that they had. Even the 4-hour workweek book was rejected from 26 out of 27 publishers. It’s important to put yourself in those uncomfortable situations.

…few things are fatal, particularly for smart people. If you’ve made it this far in life, losing a job or dripping a job will often be a little more than a few weeks of vacation (unless you want more) prior to something better.

The first step toward a 4-hour workweek is to take chances. Don’t worry about the skeptics and the nay-sayers. Don’t let them prevent you from achieving your dreams.

Automate your life

Most of us go to college to get a degree and get a 9–5 job. Once we get a degree, we work for promotions within our company.

When you work for someone else, you are building someone else’s dreams, not yours. Ferris argues against the 9–5 work schedule most of us are used to. Instead, he encourages the reader to research opportunities that will give them a passive income.

Today, we live in a world full of opportunity. People have become millionaires producing content online. There are so many opportunities for a passive income stream. You don’t even need to go to college to learn about the opportunities. One google search will open a plethora of opportunities you can take.

From investing in real-estate to stocks, there are opportunities for everyone to build a passive income stream. You need to be willing to put in the work.
