Why Mississippi Valley State University’s Decision To Allow Its Marching Band To Perform At Trump’s Inauguration Is Wrong

It is a disgrace to the Black community

The marching band for Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), a HBCU, has accepted an invitation to perform at Trump’s inauguration.

My first thought upon hearing the news was, “Why?”

Why would a historically Black university agree to allow its students to perform for a man and presidential administration that hates them and the community they belong to?

This makes as much sense as the marching band performing at a Ku Klux Klan rally.

I can hear their tokenism being weaponized now: “See, the president can’t be racist. He had a Black marching band perform at his inauguration!”

My gag reflex is working in overdrive as I write this.

Let me be clear: Trump, those in his administration, and his supporters are racists who now have both the desire and power to make life even more contentious for Black Americans than it already is.

Is MVSU’s administration experiencing amnesia and have forgotten the racist vitriol vomited by Trump and MAGA?
