For this week’s Freedom Creators, we were excited to talk to Dusti Arab. It’s been great watching Dusti go from single freelancer to CEO if her own independent business. Learn more about Dusti’s freelance journey below!

How and why did you get into freelancing?

By accident. I started a blog, had an article go viral within my first two weeks, and then a few months later I asked a friend how I could make money writing on the internet.

She told me I should be a copywriter, and I was all, “What the hell is a copywriter?” Then I googled it, stuck out my shingle, danced on a chair at the World Domination Summit when Laura Roeder asked who could write a bio for someone, and walked away with seven clients.

What’s been your proudest personal moment so far?

This year, I brought on a full-time assistant. She was able to quit her soul-sucking corporate job, too, and that was just everything for me.

How do you stay motivated and productive when flying solo?

Whelp, having someone else to pay helps. Making sure I’m working with clients I love does, too.

What’s the hardest part about being an indie worker?

THE LONELINESS. I’m an extrovert, and the struggle is real, man.

What advice do you have for others taking the leap?

Start small. Moonlight. Don’t jump with no plan. Don’t pressure your creativity to support you. Learn the skills, put in the work, track your metrics, and be humble. Nobody likes an asshat.
