Peter Trapasso on leaving the corporate tech world for freelancing freedom
We’re excited to see the Freedom Creators community grow as submissions roll in. This week, we talked to Peter Trapasso about his transition from working in corporate tech world for over a decade to feeling fulfilled with full-time freelance work. Check out Peter’s Freedom Creator story below!
How and why did you get into freelancing?
After working in the corporate tech world for over a decade, I wanted a greater variety of clients and tasks. I also realized that I was most productive and happy working from home or remotely vs. in an office environment and freelancing made that much easier to do.
What’s been your proudest personal moment so far?
Getting my first client.
How do you stay motivated and productive when flying solo?
I start work early in the day. At 6am Pacific time, I hit the ground running. As I live in San Francisco, this gives me an advantage and a head start. When most people on the West coast are getting up or commuting, I am already being productive and getting things done.
What’s the hardest part about being an indie worker?
Getting enough hours as things fluctuate from week to week. In order to bill for a 30 to 40 hour work week, you need to have commitments of more than that because clients needs change often.
What advice would you have for others taking the leap?
Make sure you have at least a one-year cushion saved up for bills and emergencies while you build up your freelancing business.
Where can we find you?
You can connect with me through my CloudPeeps profile!
