Because it helps give you credibility and shows off more of your skills. Don’t neglect your resume just because you have a portfolio believe it or not sending a cover letter, resume and portfolio actually increases your chances of being seen and taken seriously when just starting out.

Clients look for freelancers who aren’t just good at their work but carries themselves in a professional manner. Don’t get to complicated with this one if you already have a resume then all you need is the portfolio. Some may see it as overkill but it makes you stand out.

Use Pictures That are Positive and Inviting

No I don’t mean that time out with you and your friends. I mean a stand alone picture that lets your client know you mean business. No you don’t have to wear a suit and tie or dress — you can but choosing a style that’s comforting and warm work best. Use a light background.

Make a freelance email address and social media that’s different from your personal one. Add the picture we talked about and now when a client looks you up its organized and connected. This will increase your chances at getting a potential client to DM you.

Find a Mentor Who Does What You do and learn/Work from Them For Free

Having a freelance mentor in your corner can help in many ways. For one they can give you advice on there mistakes and speed up your learning curve. They can also stop you from destroying your career.

Why learn for free? This is a reference from rich dad poor dad when robert said his rich day never gave him a paycheck because “the moment you do you think like an employee”.

You need to be hungry (Not starving) for it, be willing to do whatever it takes to succeed and create the life you want. Working for them for free will undoubtedly give you access to tons of clients. While your taking some of the work off their shoulders your also building relationships with those clients. Once you gain a reputation you’ll have work and best of all pay.
