This is a fundamental aspect of writing that can make you as great as you imagined, you can achieve so much but it all starts with this mindset.

Talking about Medium or just writing for yourself, you need to be a patient person (which I am definitely not). It can help you overcome hurdles or just allow yourself to be free in your own writing land!

Writing for yourself

When you first begin writing, you need to learn some skills

  • Storytelling ability
  • Grammar
  • Humor and relatable content
  • Structure

These are all different parts of writing that you need to practice to become successful. Let’s take grammar, you need to take time to understand the rules of grammar. It was hard at the beginning to master the different rules as, I struggled with commas, I never used them and just proceeded to write an enormous sentence with no pauses.

Imagine learning another language, it takes time, and anything new to you, even if you think you are good at it, it needs patience to be best at it.

You should allow yourself a few months to fully master your skill, whether you spend your time writing small chapters or just reading others’ work. You will eventually learn the skills

Reading other’s work does improve yours! It’s like reading a textbook with all the key information in! You can learn the structure and how people involve humor or personality in a paragraph! But you won’t just learn this overnight, time is needed.

Medium

Medium is the same, to become successful takes even longer than just writing to publish a book or just writing for the fun of it. You need to follow all the steps above and be good at them before you move on to the next one.

Followers. Yes, you need to gain followers and build an audience who supports you and actually reads your work. Without viewers, your work is only written for yourself.

You need the extra time to build your community and this takes months and months. I would say give yourself a little time limit. I allowed myself about 1–2 months to learn how to write, and I am currently giving myself 5 months to build a good audience who stick with me.

If you want to become a writer, you need patience on your side to keep you going through the months of struggle! But you can do it (even if you are the most impatient person in the world like me!)

Patience in your writing

With patience, you can achieve so much such as:

  • Calming and relaxation – as your head isn’t spinning with fear and impatience
  • Ability to keep going – as you believe that in the future you will be successful, and now is part of the journey
  • Acceptance – of your work, as no matter the outcome of the reads or buyers, you are proud of what you did, and every small step leads to a bigger future

Thank you for reading :)
