The Accidental Memoirist

How I became one with the help of my Medium portfolio

Since discovering the world of online writing in 2020, I’ve split my time between Medium, Write Label and Newsbreak. Despite having taken several writing courses, I’ve done little to promote myself as a freelancer. As time goes on and you share your writing with friends, people talk.

One of my philosophical maxims is that everyone is rich in something. That something may not be monetary or material but everyone enjoys some kind of wealth. The world is full of happy paupers who live an otherwise rich existence of abundant joy, physical fitness, family, artistic expression, romance or travel. I have discovered that I am rich in friendships.

A friend I have shared some writing with told me of an acquaintance he wanted me to meet. This acquaintance was a retired pharmaceutical sales representative who was looking to work with a writer on his memoir. A breakfast meeting was set.

We had an enjoyable introduction. The representative was charming and engaging. He had enjoyed a successful and gratifying career, most of which was spent in the Canadian province of British Columbia. While he held his field in high regard, he had industry knowledge he felt was in the public interest and conscience bound to share.
