The free-to-use version of ChatGPT by OpenAI get really popular. It is (so-called) the best conversational model —

It is an AI chatbot; the difference is that you can ask questions or post requests continuously in a dialogue with ChatGPT, and the chatbot can refer to the previous chat and provide a more relevant answer.

I find it useful for my online business. I will show you how I use it; furthermore, also point out its limitations.

This article includes:

The ways to use ChatGPT more efficiently

The limitations of ChatGPT (what you should be careful about)

1. Enhanced Search Engine

ChatGPT can be a more enhanced search engine; instead of searching an answer on google, it will research the most frequent answers and combine those for a final answer.

Here is an example:

Question: What are the components of a balance sheet?

Questions about sleeping late:

So far, those are complete and quite accurate (in my point of view), yay!

But do keep in mind that this automatic selection is the frequent answer but not necessarily the correct answer, let alone innovative.

2. Coding Assistant:

I tried sending requests continuously to see if it can build a website for me. It may take a lot of hustle to build entirely on the platform, but it does give me a good framework quickly and saves us tons of time. As the following:

Round 1 — Build a simple website:

My question 1:

Answer 1 — it gives me a full explanation and the sample code, which is wonderful :)

Result 1 — the code worked like the following. It gives me the html frame, which is helpful.

The only thing I noticed is that it only gives me the “Contact Us” section in navbar, but not in the page.

Round 2 — CSS formatting:

My question 2:

Ah, forgive my grammar mistake!

Answer 2:

Result on my question 2 — Pleasantly surprised! I think it help a lot when we know the basic knowledge of HTML and CSS — we can just edit on their template.

Round 3 — More custom formatting:

Result:

Round 4 — Add more sections:

Add the “Samples” and “Contact Us” Section:

Round 5 — Add more things into one section:

Result — it follows most the request, but unfortunately doesn’t research about the pictures.

After the five round of test I’m pleasantly surprised by its capacity of writing code blocks and modify via requests.

Though I don’t think it works like a real software developer, it is sufficient to build simple frameworks and code blocks that saves us tons of time.

3. Writing Assistant:

Since ChatGPT model was trained with a huge amount of text; it is good at framing ideas, brainstorming, and giving general ideas. Here are the examples:

Get me a weekly report for my boss:

One trick is to ask more specific questions and follow-up questions, so that the AI can narrow down the search scope and give a more accurate answer.

4. Brainstorming:

Similar to writing assistance, we can treat it as a smart robot brainstorming with us; the ideas can be inspiring:

Get me a new-year resolution about career, life and self-development — not bad, right?

Form a habit of getting up early as a night owl?

Tips for my first date as a female:

5. Course Teacher:

Test on answering coding questions:

It works!

Explain code for me: (to be continued)

Check on possible bugs: (to be continued)

Limitations:

Mind plagiarism:

As a language model, GPT-3 is not capable of producing original content or ideas. It only generate text based on the input it is given — if the input to GPT-3 includes text that is copied from another source, the output of GPT-3 will also include that text.

If you want to use something in our article, so check the sources, or just use it as an inspiration and re-write with your original words.

Not necessarily the right answer:

ChatGPT provides not necessarily the right answer, but the most answer.

No creativity or novelty:

ChatGPT provides the most frequent answer so that it is generally the most common answer, it is usually well-structured but let alone novelty. This also means that the GPT algorithm will not replace most creative jobs in the short term.

Can have a little temporary problem now:

We can face with temporary server problem now since ChatGPT is constantly overloaded.

An error occurred:

In most cases, the issue is temporary and can be resolved by restarting or refreshing ChatGPT website and trying again.

Too many requests:

It means you are sending requests to an ChatGPT API too quickly or using too much, and the ChatGPT server is overloaded. We can do slowly and try again after a while.
