Why You Need AI Tools for Audio Editing and Repair

There’s nothing worse than dealing with poor sound quality.

We all need voice editing and repair tools for things like:

  • Fixing voiceovers
  • Cleaning up podcast audio
  • Restoring an old music track
  • Enhancing audio clarity for videos
  • Removing annoying background noise

If you look at successful podcasters or YouTubers, you’ll never hear bad audio. I run a YouTube channel with over 15k subscribers, and for me, having clear audio is non-negotiable.

I’ve spent way too much time trying to find AI tools that could fix this problem, and that’s when I came across Fiverr.

On Fiverr I found professionals who could quickly clean up my recordings. I didn’t have to install any complicated software. I simply uploaded my audio or video files and they took care of the rest.

If you’ve been struggling with bad audio, Fiverr can change the way you deal with it.

Want to know which tools really work? I tested 20+ AI audio repair tools, and here are the 4 that stood out.

The 4 Best AI Tools for Audio Editing and Repair (Ranked)

Based on my testing of 20+ tools, here are the 4 that truly stood out (along with key features, pricing, and my review of their services) —

1. Fiverr — The Best Human + AI Combo for Audio Editing

Fiverr is one of the best platforms if you need help with audio repair and editing. To be honest, this platform has become my go-to place for a whole lot of services.

If you’re not sure where to start, just go to Fiverr and type in keywords like “audio editing” or “audio repair” into the search bar. A ton of freelance gigs will pop up.

Screenshot by the author of Fiverr

It’s pretty cool how specific some of the gigs are. I use Fiverr’s filters to narrow things down, like budget, delivery time, and seller level. I typically prefer “Level 2” or “Top Rated” sellers because of their experience. But if a freelancer’s listing catches my eye, I do take a closer look.

Tips to find the best audio editor on Fiverr

Some freelancers also offer different packages, so I make sure to spend some time comparing what’s included in each to pick what’s best for me.

You should always check out the gig details and listen to any samples the freelancer provides. Some sellers even include before-and-after clips, which can help you determine who’s capable of doing the specific repair or editing you need. I also take a look at how many revisions are included and whether they can meet my deadline.

Also, don’t forget to review the “About” section of each gig. This will help you choose the right freelancer for your project.

The next most important thing is to check out the reviews. More positive reviews generally make a freelancer seem more reliable.

As you can see, this particular freelancer is top-rated and has over 242 reviews, which boosts my confidence in him.

Before you fully commit, reach out and have a conversation with the freelancer. Good communication and mutual understanding is important between a client and freelancer. Some sellers respond quickly and make you want to work with them again, while others may not be as enthusiastic, or your vibe simply might not match.

Finding the right freelancer might take some time. But you should always connect with someone reliable. So yes, take your time and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Do some research and always trust your gut.

2. Descript — Best for Podcast & Video Editing with AI

Descript is an audio and video editing platform focused on transcription and editing. It can automatically transcribe audio or video to text, and more, making it super easy to edit your YouTube videos or podcasts.

This tool is perfect for podcasters, content creators, and anyone needing simple yet effective editing tools.

Descript has multiple features like AI Avatar, AI Speech, Eye Contact, Captions, and more.

  • Go to Descript.
  • Sign up using Google or email to get started.

Descript allows you to record your own audio and video, and directly generate captions, remove background noise, and add fade transitions.

This tool provides you with an option to edit your captions manually, change the font size and style, and even animate them. You can add different elements to your video like shapes, annotations, and dynamic text. You can also add stock images and GIFs if you want. Pretty cool, right?

Now, if you want to clone your voice, Descript allows you to do that too. All you need to do is click on “AI Speakers,” record yourself reading a passage provided by Descript, and click on “Submit.”

Once Descript has cloned your voice, you can enter any text you want, and it will convert it into speech using your exact voice.

I decided to try this out and I absolutely love how my cloned voice turned out. It’s unbelievable, to be honest, because I’ve seen most text-to-speech converters make me sound like someone else or turn my voice metallic. Also, Descript automatically eliminated any background noise that might have made its way into my recording.

Top AI features: Transcript editing, voice cloning, noise removal

If you want an AI speaker, you can choose one from Descript’s list. You can even add background music to your video or podcast audio.

Descript has an “Edit for Clarity” tool that automatically removes filler words or unnecessary gaps from your audio.

I also tested the “Text to Video” feature of Descript. You just need to enter a text prompt, and wait for Descript to generate a video.

Here’s the prompt I used:

“Create a short 60-second explainer video introducing Descript as an all-in-one audio and video editing platform. Highlight its key features: voice cloning, background noise removal, AI-powered captions, and the ‘Eye Contact’ tool. Make it friendly, engaging, and easy for beginners to understand. Use clean visuals, upbeat background music, and a conversational tone.”

GIF of the video generated by Descript

Amazing! The AI wrote the script, generated relevant visuals, and added a voiceover. It hardly took 2 minutes to generate a 30 second video. I have the option of changing the style of the visuals and the AI voice for the voiceover. If you mention the video length in your prompt, Descript will make sure to stick to it.

The turnaround time for each feature is less than 5 minutes, which is pretty amazing. This tool can save me a lot of time if I ever decide to start a podcast. Descript is great for those who don’t have video or audio editing skills, but want to start a podcast or YouTube channel.

Other than this, Descript’s “Eye Contact” feature lets you maintain continuous eye contact while you record yourself, so you can look at your script while reading, but still appear to be staring directly at the camera.

Descript also creates a draft title, YouTube description, social media posts, and even helps you brainstorm when you’re feeling creative.

I love how you can add silence, voice effects, distortion, lyrics, beats, echo, reverb, and more to your audio. Descript lets you extract audio from M4V, MOV, MP4, GIFs, and even from Facebook and Instagram stories. You can also remove breathing, mouth clicks, stutters, and more from your audio with just one click.

Descript pricing

Let’s take a look at the pricing plans of Descript. The “Hobbyist” plan is a good option if you don’t handle bulk content.

The “Creator” plan is great for serious content creators. It provides 4K exports, advanced AI tools, and dubbing, all in one package. It’s pretty impressive how many features you get for just $24 per month. You get unlimited access to both basic and advanced AI features. If you run a business, you can think of going for the “Business” plan.

If you need consistent content, audio cleaning and generation, and more, I’d suggest going for the annual plan since you’ll end up saving more.

3. ElevenLabs — Best AI for Voiceovers, Dubbing, and Audiobooks

ElevenLabs is an AI-driven platform that focuses mainly on lifelike text-to-speech synthesis. This tool not only lets you convert text to speech, but also speech to text, change the voice of an audio file, clone a voice, and more. It also has an AI Dubbing feature across 29 languages and conversational AI agents.

  • Go to ElevenLabs.
  • Click on “Try for free”.
  • Sign up with Google or email to get started.

You can get started by cloning your own voice or generating a new one based on a prompt. Alternatively, you can stick to any of the voices in the library.

I tried the prompt-based voice generation, and trust me, the results were amazing! ElevenLabs gave me three options to choose from, and I found “Voice 3” to be the best.

Screenshot by the author of ElevenLabs

Now, I can use this voice every time I convert my text to speech. Or, I can also clone my own voice if I want.

I decided to try out the text-to-speech feature. All you have to do is type in your text, choose an AI voice, and click on “Generate Speech.”

Screenshot by the author of the Text-to-Speech tool of ElevenLabs

Honestly, this feature surprised me a lot. Why? Because most text-to-speech AI generators don’t include good voice modulation. But ElevenLabs absolutely nailed it. I love the storytelling quality of the voice I chose. It genuinely sounds like an actual human is narrating it.

You can adjust the “Speed”, “Stability”, “Similarity”, and “Style Exaggeration” of the generated audio.

ElevenLabs also has a voice changer where you can upload an audio file and convert the voice into any of the listed AI voices. This includes a “Remove Background Noise” feature, which is fantastic. I tested it by recording myself in a fairly noisy environment, and the result? Crystal clear audio in Alice’s voice.

You can also choose between two models: Eleven Multilingual v2 or Eleven English v2. The former supports 29 languages, while the latter focuses only on English.

Screenshot by the author of the models of ElevenLabs

ElevenLabs also allows you to generate your own sound effects. Just enter a text prompt and click on “Generate.” I chose a rather funny prompt, and the results were hilarious! The AI followed the prompt to a tee, by the way.

Screenshot by the author of the Voice Changer tool of ElevenLabs

The “Studio” in ElevenLabs has some cool features too. You can generate an entire audiobook, create an article, or even a podcast. Unbelievable, right?

I’m an author, and creating audiobooks used to be nothing short of a nightmare for me. Why? Because I rarely get the time to record my own audiobook. Plus, having a proper studio-like environment is a must, and outsourcing this can be quite expensive. Not anymore.

Screenshot by the author of the Audiobook feature of ElevenLabs

Once you’re done uploading your content file, you can either use your own cloned voice or select one from the voice library. What I love most is the “Auto-assign voices” feature, where each character is automatically given a different voice. This makes the audiobook sound so much more engaging!

You can also dub your existing videos into 29 different languages. Simply upload the video file or use a pre-existing URL, select the language you want it dubbed in, choose the duration of the dub, and you’re good to go.

Screenshot by the author of the Dubbing feature of ElevenLabs

The diction of the dubbed audio is absolutely amazing. I definitely recommend trying out this feature.

I also explored the “AI Agent” feature in ElevenLabs. There are four types:

  • Support agent — for general issues.
  • Mindfulness coach — to help you gain clarity.
  • Sales agent — to guide you on how to use ElevenLabs for your business.
  • Video game generator — a fun AI agent to help resolve game-related queries.

Each AI agent engages in a remarkably human-like conversation. It’s almost like chatting with a friend or mentor who’s always available.

GIF of the AI agent feature of ElevenLabs

I love how the AI agent encourages me to think. It starts by asking relevant questions about my problems and slowly narrows down to my actual pain points. Then, the AI agent recommends methods and solutions that can genuinely help!

The best part? The solutions aren’t just generalised, bland motivational lines; they’re real, relevant, and practical.

Other than this, ElevenLabs also has some pretty interesting audio tools like “Audio Native,” which automatically converts webpage text to speech, “Voiceover Studio” to edit and add voiceovers to your videos, “Voice Isolator” to isolate a specific voice sample, and “AI Speech Classifier” to detect if an audio file was generated by ElevenLabs.

So if you’re looking for high-quality AI audio editing, voiceovers, and more, you should definitely check out ElevenLabs.

ElevenLabs pricing

Let’s have a look at the pricing plans of ElevenLabs. You can get started for free with 10k credits/month, which gives you 10 minutes of text-to-speech or 15 minutes of conversational AI.

The “Starter” plan begins at $4.17/month and includes voice cloning and a commercial license. If you’re a consistent creator, the “Creator” plan at $18.33/month gives 100k credits, higher quality audio, and professional voice cloning.

If you need bulk content, you can opt for the “Pro” plan at $82.50/month with 500k credits.

Screenshot by the author of the pricing plans of ElevenLabs

If you run a business, you can look at the specific plans of ElevenLabs made for businesses. ElevenLabs has high-volume plans like the “Scale” plan at $275/month for 2,000 minutes of text-to-speech. The “Business plan” costs $1,100/month, adds low-latency TTS and three professional voice clones.

If you have custom needs, you can definitely check out the “Enterprise” plan.

4. Podcastle — Best AI Podcast Editor for Beginners

Podcastle is an all-in-one platform for editing video and podcasts. It comes with a built-in recording studio, AI voice options, and easy-to-use editors. You can create professional, high-quality content in just a few minutes.

  • Go to Podcastle.
  • Click on “Sign up–it’s free”.
  • Sign up using your email, Google, Facebook, or Apple to get started.

You can click on “Create” to start either a new video or audio project. I’m going to start with audio first. Let’s look at the “Generate Speech” feature. This is basically a text-to-speech tool. I just need to enter the text I want to convert, choose an AI voice, and click on “Generate”.

While choosing a voice, I can see multiple options, which is fantastic. I can also choose an accent. Well, the results I got are quite satisfactory. I can also edit the audio generated by changing its amplitude, volume, and can equalize or even compress it.

I also have an option of cloning my own voice, which, to be honest, took well more than five minutes. Podcastle has a “Magic Dust AI” feature, which helps you fine-tune your recording. But the generated cloned voice exceeded my expectations by far. It sounds exactly like me!

I tried changing the accent to “UK”, and the results were hilarious. I mean, the voice does sound somewhat like me, but the accent’s… well… not familiar.

Next, I tried the “Edit by text” feature, where you can upload an audio file and edit it using a text prompt. This is something new, and I don’t think I’ve ever used something similar to this before.

Once you’re done uploading your audio file, you’ll be asked to enter a text prompt, indicating what changes you want in your audio file. I went for:

“Remove background noise, clean up any breathing or mouth clicks, enhance vocal clarity, and add a slight echo for a studio-like sound. Make the voice sound warm and professional, like it’s recorded in a podcast studio.”

The results were absolutely amazing! Podcastle executed my prompt brilliantly well. I deliberately recorded myself in a pretty noisy environment, and trust me, I am pleasantly surprised.

Podcastle also allows you to directly import an audio or video file and transcribe it. You can’t import directly from Google Drive yet, but you can either upload it manually or use Dropbox if you want.

The AI video assistant also has multiple features you can include in your project. Take a look:

Screenshot by the author of the AI assistant of Podcastle
  • The “AI Video Enhance” removes grain from your videos.
  • The “Eye Contact” feature makes it look like you’re constantly looking at your audience, even if you’re actually reading from a script.
  • The “Cinematic Blur” edits your video background by blurring it.
  • The “Magic Dust AI” enhances audio quality and removes background noise.
  • The “Noise Reduction” specifically gets rid of background noise.
  • The “Auto Leveling” adjusts audio volume to give optimal results.

These features are accessible only if you purchase one of Podcastle’s plans. The free plan gives you only 10,000 words to work with and doesn’t include access to several features.

Podcastle pricing

So, here are the different pricing plans of Podcastle.

Screenshot by the author of the pricing plans of Podcastle

Podcastle’s pricing is surprisingly good. The Pro plan stands at $8/month and is amazing for serious content creators who need AI video and audio tools. To be honest, even the $3 plan covers all the basics if you’re just starting out.
