The Free Market Road Show Took Argentina By Storm!
The Free Market Road Show (FMRS) has paid its second visit to Latin America. Like the first time, the Road Show teamed up with Fundación Bases’s International Conference “The Austrian School of Economics in the 21st Century.”
After the great success of 2016 — in which the FMRS consisted of a discussion panel with the presence of AEC’s Barbara Kolm and Congressman Federico Angelini, among others — we decided to make it bigger this year. Therefore, the FMRS consisted in three separate events that spread through the conference’s program and which gathered a massive audience.
The Free Market Road Show was kickstarted by a panel on the future of liberty in Argentina. It featured AEC’s own Federico N. Fernández — who happens to be also Fundación Bases’s president — Jeremías Morlandi, who’s editor of “República Económica”, Alberto Medina Méndez, the chair of Red por la Libertad, Pablo di Bernardo, member of the newly formed “Partido Libertario,” and Marcelo Duclos as moderator, who’s editor of “Visión Liberal” and senior staff member of Fundación Naumann Argentina.
The second FMRS event was the lecture “Capitalism and the Elimination of Poverty,” by Javier Milei. An economist by training, Mr. Milei is also a media sensation and has single-handedly taken the libertarian message way beyond its typical recipients. Milei is engaging a new generation of young people who want to hear more about freedom and are fed up with the old and failed recipes of the past.
The last Road Show event was an international workshop by Ignaci Bolto (aka Spanish Libertarian.) Mr. Bolto has more than 80,000 followers on Facebook and is doing some of the most innovative libertarian work on the web. The Spanish Libertarian’s workshop was on effective communication.
Both the FMRS and the Seventh International Conference “The Austrian School of Economics in the 21st Century” were a big success as a whole. The conference gathered people from almost every country in the Spanish speaking world. With a program of 65+ presentations and hundreds of attendees, the event has totally established itself as the Must-Attend conference for scholars, students, and everyone who’s interested in Austrian Economics in particular and Classical Liberalism in general.
What’s more, after seven successful editions in Argentina the Austrian Conference is moving to Vienna. Starting October 2019, the International Conference “The Austrian School of Economics in the 21st Century” will happen also in Austria — the place in which everything started. “We’re very happy to be able to have this opportunity to organize our Austrian Conference one year in Rosario and one year in Vienna. We’re also thankful to everybody at the Austrian Economics Center to partner with us — especially to Barbara Kolm.”
