MAC Football Pick’em: Week 6

Double the points, double the fun. It’s the flavor of the MAC it’s double point time.

With the exception of a late Army-EMU game next week, we are finally all clear of the non-conference woods. Pat yourselves on the back. We did it!

OK, time to settle down because this is the part to get serious. MAC play in the Pick’em means half the amount of games but double the points. Screw up, and you’re toast. No pressure, fam.

As for last week, we had five people go perfect, including all three of us here. Overall, here is the current Top 10: Karp (55 pts), Justin Coffin (54), Alex Alvarado (52), Ben Roush (48), Myself & Nathan8848 (47), KC & Tallmidget57 (43), HuronBoy (39), Matt Dizzle (37). KC fell from first after not participating last week, but is still in this because we all know nothing.

Eastern Michigan vs Toledo — This is a great way to kick off a MAC Only week, and it has sole possession of both a noon slotting and TV air time (CBSSN). The Eagles have lost two tough games back-to-back, and appear to be a tangible rush offense away from being true contenders in the MAC. However, with a bye week to rest up before this one, I expect the Rockets to knock EMU to 0–2 in the MAC as they begin their own march towards Detroit.

Central Michigan vs Ohio — On one hand, Shane Morris could rebound against a defense that just allowed UMass to air it out against them. On the other, this is CMU we’re talking about, and no. Ohio rolls as the Chippewas will claw their way to a Week 8 match-up against Ball State for “Worst in the West”.

Bowling Green vs Miami — lol. Sure Miami got throttled by Notre Dame and is 2–3. Bowling Green is 0–5 and hasn’t looked good in ANY game thus far. RedHawks roll in the easiest game of the week.

Ball State vs Akron — Akron looked to contend in the MAC this year, and they (likely) will not. Ball State had some good non-conference play, only to get pimp smacked (again) by Western Michigan. In a game where running the ball seems like it’ll be the main factor, I’ll take the Cardinals and Caleb Huntley (or James Gilbert, if he happens to return).

Kent State vs Northern Illinois — I want you to remember back five years ago, because it’s been that long since these two teams met for the MAC Championship. Doesn’t seem that long ago, does it? NIU looks like its back to being NIU with the good defense and all, but the offense still isn’t quite there. However, it’ll be good enough because of how anemic the Golden Flashes are.

Western Michigan vs Buffalo — Hey, College Gameday was at this match-up last year! Both teams have decent defenses this season, which has helped Buffalo amass a 3–2 record thus far. Now, the Bulls must stop a Bronco team that appears to be clicking on offense and still can run the ball (almost) at will. This should be a fun one as weird things tend to happen in Buffalo. (I like the Broncos though, obviously)

Game of the Week: Western Michigan vs Buffalo — A little bit of a personal preference, but I think the Bulls will challenge WMU on defense just enough to keep this one interesting. If Tyree Jackson is 100% healthy, it’s close to a toss-up, but with Drew Anderson under center (or behind him, whatever), I can’t give a full nod to the Bulls.
