The blank walls stared back at him. An offwhite continuum that nobody but him understood.

“Why don’t you hang some pictures?” They would always ask.

His explanantions were never satisfactory. They just thought he was crazy.

It was probably the same way if you reversed it though. He didnt understand how they could survive with all that stuff around them.

You gotta keep life simple. Too much stuff always cluttered up his mental space. Left him panicked. Feeling trapped.

No, we need these bare walls. The single chair. Two bookshelves.

Even still, he was starting to feel like this was too much.

Lately, he had been contemplating getting rid of the chair. Daily he argued with himself about standing all the time. I could always lean against the wall.

Deep down he knew it was only a matter of time. Eventaully the chair would be gone.

How far could he push it? Those bookshelves are kind of unsightly. Maybe they should go too. But then where would the books go?

No, he needed to keep the books orderly.

How else could he simplify his life though?

No car, tiny house. Hell, he’d even gotten rid of the bed! All in the name of simplicity.

He didnt want to become one of the crazy ones. The ones who chased simplicity so far, they wound up in 50 square foot rooms. Barely enough space to stand. Definitely couldnt lay down in those.

How do they sleep? Standing up?!

Yeah, definitely not going to that extreme. 80 spacious square feet is perfect for me.
