Expand the population, do not just play with the inner circle, you will face bottleneck.

On March 13, we announce the #FRESCOISITART 5000 FRES Tokens Contest on Twitter and Instagram, to start a discussion about art globally.

We have received tons of retweets and loves during this contest. Thank your for our followers around the world to join in the #FRESCOISITART contest and share what you believe that is art.

We think this debate should not end once the contest ends, instead it should be an ongoing thing on social media, the place where most of the people can have their voice heard, to express their opinion and questions about artworks and art in general.

Art as we know today have taken on quite an ivory-tower approach, with exclusivity to a small circle of people as an investment vehicle.

Even though we, the ordinary people are allowed to go to the museum & art fairs for free or a small fee,

what can we actually do to engage with the artwork beyond just taking some photos?

Can we have the chance to meet with an artist, visit artist’s studio, and support an artist from our local community or online to help him or she achieve success and more exposure in the art world?

The answer is few, the operational aspect of art system has been kept in a way to prevent masses from entering, to keep its elitism.

That’s why most of us are only allowed to take photos of artwork from a museum or gallery show, but can never engage more, let alone promote an artist or artwork to benefit from the art we love because it’s tightly controlled by a small group of art market makers.

Mega galleries promote their all-star artists through lavish cocktail parties, show openings, and dollar-piled marketing channel, send their artworks to prestigious museums for exhibition, then sell to private collectors or commission to mega auction houses to create high prices. The circle goes on, and rarely let outsiders, let the masses to participate.

But now, in the new blockchain world, the barrier is being taking down, whether they like it or not.

And the good thing is these market makers will not be gone in this solution, but rather, they will share a part of their promotional power to the masses, to let more people join the art market, to promote the artist they love on their own.

To radically kill giants in art industry, a industry like finance that is almost rigid to its core, is impossible. Even today we still have JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs hanging around influencing lives after hundreds of years.

But we can have a peaceful paradigm shift that expands the market exponentially to a global scale and making everyone happy.

In fact, the art world has always been doing this, you have Picasso’s oil on canvas painting get sold for millions, and you have Picasso lithograph prints (which is essentially Picasso hires a print shop to make some copies and signed them himself) sold for around for $7k and sometimes even lower.

The problem is these auction houses and galleries do not promote to a wider population and still fixated with a selected group of art collectors and hence is facing a bottleneck of not getting enough sales.

This causes the majority people around the world does not know that they can get their hands on a signed, limited edition Picasso work for less than $3000!

With FRESCO and the solutions we bring like FRES Trust and FRES Edition, the art market can have a wider population of art loving people who can become collectors without having to drop $100k on a painting, while the masses can participate directly in the art market and get a portion of the artwork they dream about, or promote a local artist with a group of friends & investors.

Imagine the extent if you can spend less than 500 FRES and get a “1 out of 100” FRES Edition of an emerging student artist’s work valued at 50,000 FRES Trust. Two years later this student artist gained global recognition after some major museum shows and one day you wake up your FRES Edition now worth 5,000 FRES because that student artist is now branded as an “internationally renowned artist” and that artwork you got FRES Edition for has 500,000 FRES Trust in it because of the addition from other FRES Edition holders, galleries, and auction houses!

Welcome to the art market, where if you are early, you wins.

It’s a fortunate coincidence that both our winners chose geniuses in their period only rediscovered by the art world long time after their death.

And in the future with FRESCO, we hope more geniuses can be recognized at a global scale in their lifetime.

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, A Bold Bluff, oil on canvas, 1906

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (1844–1934), the artist behind A Bold Bluff, performed art without formal training in the early 1900s. After leaving his family farm in the 1860s, Coolidge tried various types of jobs, including running a drug store, founding a bank, painting street signs, drawing cartoons, and teaching, before he produced the dog-genre subjects series of oil paintings merely for advertising. Only until the late 1990s, Coolidge had been recognized and proved by the art market. In 2015, eighty-one years after his death, Coolidge’s Poker Game (1894) hit $658,000 at a Sotheby’s New York auction.

Johannes Vermeer, Girl with a Pearl Earring, oil on canvas, 1665

Johannes Vermeer, the world-class artist and a 17th century master of Girl with a Pearl Earring, was omitted from the history for two centuries and rediscovered in the 19th century by two art historian and critic. His manipulation of light and color enchants viewers globally, but details of his creative process and techniques in the drawing never appear due to this loss of record in history. Even the number of paintings survived and attributed to Vermeer is uncertain today.
