Duality.

It’s a title of one of my most favorite music albums (by Lisa Gerrard, 1998), but it’s also a word that correctly depicts our team’s professional identity … OMG, what a schizophrenic statement, isn’t it? :) But I’ve pulled it out for a reason:

  • we tend to do all our recruitment under the banner of Shedul
  • but if you’ve used our products, probably the only name you’ve ever encountered is Fresha (and that’s how all our swag, roll-ups & other marketing materials are labeled)

WTH? Who are we? Two separate teams (or even companies)? A team in the middle of re-branding transition? One sneaky company trying to mislead someone with a fake name(s)? :)

Let’s clear this out once and for all: Shedul & Fresha are two brands & end-user perspectives of a SINGLE platform:

  1. Shedul is a global Software-as-a-Service product for Beauty & Wellness salons, aimed to cover all aspects of their businesses, so salons’ owners & employees can focus solely on providing the best service for their customers
  2. Fresha is an online marketplace, where Shedul providers offer their services to everyone who’s interested (potential & current customers) — one can book, re-schedule, cancel or review appointments of their choice

As you can see, these two elements perfectly complement each other: the more salons in Shedul, the wider choice of available services in Fresha, so the higher incentive for new Fresha users who may become new customers for Shedul providers. The front-end applications may look different (these actually ARE separate client apps), but what’s behind is a single, shared, common platform — powering both Shedul & Fresha.

So to keep the long story short:

  • we’re ONE team
  • working on ONE product
  • following ONE vision
  • building upon a SINGLE technology stack

The business duality is driven by the branding strategy & it all makes sense (as its targeted at two separate groups of recipients), but technology-wise we’re just one single bunch of engineers, so for the sake of clarity, when speaking only about our engineering (e.g. on this blog or in terms of engineer recruitment), we’ll use (from now on), a single name:

Fresha Engineering.
