The place is Skapto 1 Residence Hall. This is the location where we can most often find Nikolay Pachev. He usually likes to relax there while talking to people and hanging around the front desk. As he would put it, describing his leisure time activities, “I just love to go to the front desk and hang out there and talk with the people.”

Nikolay Pachev is an ambitious, study-driven freshman in AUBG, coming from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, who also enjoys being involved in various sporting activities like Karate, Football and Fitness, when he has the time. Between the different club activities and projects which Nikolay deals with outside of classes, he still manages to put a great emphasis on studying.

“I am very dedicated to the studying process. Most of the stuff I do here in the university is related to studying” Nikolay says. He adds afterwards that he likes to be informed always.

The desire to be well-informed and to develop his skills even further, led Nikolay to joining a new AUBG project called “Elevate”. The initiative gives students the opportunity to start their own business by providing starting capital along with mentorship and workshops throughout the year. Nikolay shared his excitement for the project and hopes to develop his skills and get some insights for work in the future.

“In terms of Elevate, I would like to acquire new skills which I could not possess if it were only for the courses here, so I would like to have more practical work and possibly get some new skills as well as an internship” Nikolay says.

When asked about his future plans, Nikolay still doesn’t have a very clear idea what he would like to pursue. He shared a dilemma which he has on this topic, which involves choosing between corporate work and owning a personal business. Coming from family with an own business, he has seen the difficulties and responsibilities which a family — run firm can have.

He says that his parents have always pushed him to go on and get a job that does not take so much of his spare time.

Whatever, Nikolay chooses to pursue, one thing is certain for his future and it is the fact that he would remain in Bulgaria after graduation. He truly believes that Bulgaria is a great place to live and that the current situation can be improved by the people he sees around him.

“I see people who are dedicated to studying and achieving their goals. This is why I really would rather stay here because I believe the situation in the country really could get better.”
