Celebrating National Pecan Pie Day

While the world is busy celebrating National Pecan Pie Day on July 12th every year, we are busy admiring its sweet and savoury flavour. Pecan nuts are sweet, rich and have distinct flavor. They go well in both savoury and sweet dishes, most famously pecan pie, a classic recipe from Southern America.

This wholesome and hearty pie speaks a lot about South American culture. It’s sweet, rich, decadent and usually made with a ‘whole lotta love’. It is generally considered an indulgent dessert and is made at home on special occasions like Christmas and Thanksgiving.

A pecan pie is traditionally made of a light and flaky pie crust. The filling includes brown sugar, bourbon and toasted pecans. Maple syrup is also paired with this pie to make it more decadent and give it a rich flavour.

Top this freshly baked pie — hot out of the oven — with a dollop of fresh cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you’ve got a dessert — made with humble ingredients — fit for a king!
